Surge of interest changes dance ownership

Dance is defined as an artistic form of nonverbal communication. Young women in the Center and Stanton areas now have a greater opportunity to let out the music inside after a summer decision by the school board.

Co-op discussion leaves unanswered questions

The idea of a co-op in girls basketball and football programs with Washburn has some Center-Stanton School District patrons on edge. An informal meeting Dec. 1 at the Center-Stanton High School was meant to open a dialogue with some of those concerns.

City to raise utility rates

Water, sewer and garbage collection rates for the city of Center will go up Jan. 1. At the monthly meeting Monday, Dec. 7, City Council members approved monthly increases of $1 for garbage collection, $2 for sewer service and $10 for the base water rate.

BNI Coal recognized for county conservation efforts

Just driving by this land, no one would suspect a few years ago a dragline was digging an enormous hole there while other mining equipment was extracting thousands of tons of lignite. Today this expanse of land has been restored so well that because of reclamation efforts completed by BNI Coal, Ltd., the company was presented the 2009 Conservation Achievement Award by the Oliver Soil Conservation District Board.

C-S School District reports Hazen for enrollment violation

The Center-Stanton Public School District has reported the Hazen School District to the state superintendent of public instruction for unlawfully enrolling a student from the C-S district.

CSHS FFA attends National FFA Convention

The Center-Stanton High School FFA, led by adviser Duane Schmidt, attended the 82nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. Over seven days, from Oct. 18-25, the FFA chapter traveled, observed and learned.
