Friday offered the only fair day for baseball at the Washburn baseball field as the Steve Kenner Memorial Baseball Tournament started. All games were on time Friday. Four innings were played on Saturday before teams were soaked and everyone went home to let the field dry out for another day. The field was too wet to play on Sunday, coach Kip Erickson said.

The Washburn-Wilton-Wing-Center-Stanton Cardinals found themselves in a rare situation on Thursday evening. The defending Region 8 champions were playing another team from last year’s state tournament field for a spot in the state championship. The Cardinals battled to the championship the hard way, winning two games on the same day but came up short in the final battle.

The conditions were terrible for the Region 5 boys golf tournament. It was a cold and cloudy day with rain and wind. The Wildcats fought the condition as best they could and finished fifth overall.

It’s no secret that Washburn-Wilton-Wing-Center-Stanton and Beulah are viewed as two of the region favorites to advance to the state tournament. Beulah’s only loss of the season was to W-W-W-C-S in a five-inning game on the road. Both teams met once again on Monday, giving a possible regional playoff preview.

The Center-Stanton track team was busy last week. The team competed in two meets – the Standing Rock Meet and the Sakakawea Country Classic in Hazen on Saturday. The Wildcats had a lot of success in their first meet but strguled to land any placers in the Saturday meet.

Seven members of the Center Barracuda swim team competed at the 2013 State Short Course Swimming Championship last weekend in Grand Forks. Competing for the Barracudas were Ashlyn Haag, Kaitlynne Haag, Tristan Jacobson, Kayleigh Kraft, Breanna Vosberg, Ericka Vosberg and Mason Olander.
