Underclassmen getting time in the limelight

During the preseason, coach Kip Erickson knew he was faced with the challenge of maturing a young group into a solid contender among Region 8 competition. Nearly two months later the co-op between Washburn, Wilton and Center-Stanton schools is hitting the downward slope of their season and have only four conference losses to their name while sweeping three other opponents.

Wildcats sending at least 1 to state

Kirby Kraft knows what it is like to stand alone. The Center-Stanton senior was the only Wildcat track and field team member at the Class B State Track Meet last spring. So far in 2010 he once again is the only one among his teammates to qualify an event.

Seniors line few highlights from first outdoor action

With the sun shining and wind down to a manageable speed, it seemed that track and field teams were coming out of the woodwork for the Bison Charger meet last Friday. The Hazen meet that collected 25 teams on both the boys’ and girls’ side led to a level of competition that Center-Stanton hasn’t seen yet this year.

Spending five days a week for several months with the same people can lead to a family type of routine. But the 2010 Center-Stanton track team has two pairs of actual blood relations leading the way for the group of 27 athletes.

Familiar face revives grade-school wrestling

It began with a comment from one parent to another. Who passed it on to another parent. Who also passed it on, and on, and on ... Next thing the group knew was the almost discarded room in the Center-Stanton High School once again had young athletes breathing life back into the space.

An interesting indoor opening last Monday

Center-Stanton head coach Jamie Entzi and the crew haven’t been able to schedule enough time around Mother Nature to get track and field training outdoors yet so a skeleton team took off for the University of Mary Monday for indoor competition.

Tournament misfourtunes cause elimination of Wildcats

“Anything can happen at tournament time.” It’s an old cliche that still holds some truth as nobody could have scripted the District 9 Tournament last week in Mandan. The fifth seed team ended up playing for the championship. The first place seed, which went undefeated in the regular season district schedule, was forced to fight for its life.
