The Center-Stanton boys’ basketball team started off last week with a close win but couldn’t hold their momentum for the rest of the week and lost two games, ending the regular season 6-13. The Wildcats lost to Hazen and Flasher on back-to-back nights.

The Center-Stanton Centations competed in four categories at state dance in Grand Forks last weekend. The young squad overcame a bunch of fluttery nerves and made finals in the Pom category. The Centations also had a good showings in Jazz, High Kick and Hip-hop.

The Center-Stanton Wildcats found themselves on the wrong side of revenge on Jan. 15. The Wildcats hosted Washburn in a rematch of an early season tournament game. The last time Washburn and Center-Stanton matched up the Wildcats won 52-51, this time the Wildcats lost 66-55.

The only way to get better is to take on the best. The Wildcats took to the court against the top ranked Beulah Miners Jan. 7. Last time the two teams met Beulah won by 58 points, 84-26. This time things were different early but ended with the same result.

The Center-Stanton Wildcats ended 2012 on top of things. The Wildcats went on the road and defeated Glen Ullin-Hebron by 13 points. The victory gives the Wildcats an overall record of 3-5 on the season.

The Center-Stanton Wilcats knew that it wasn’t going to be an easy tournament when they agreed to participate in the New Salem-Almont tournament. The Wildcats had to play Grant County, ranked eighth in the state, in the first round.

The Center-Stanton Wildcats are making a good habit. Earlier in the season the Wildcats edged out a close game against Washburn. On Dec. 15 the Wildcats did it again, this time against New Salem.

Last week the Wildcats started their 2012-2013 boys varsity basketball season. The first game of the season was a Dec. 4 game against Standing Rock. The Wildcats lost their season opener but were able to collect their first win of the season at the McLean County tournament.

The Wildcats opened the match with two victories but lost three sets in a row. The Wildcats will face off against the loser of Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky and Wilton-Wing Thursday, Nov. 1. The winner of the Thursday match will advance to the regional tournament.

Most people like to leave things better than they found them or at least with a taste of success. Brett Eckert did just that. Eckert turned in his resignation as the head coach of the Center-Stanton Wildcats football team after the conclusion of the season almost two weeks ago.
