Lake finally freezes, new record set
It is a record after all.
U. S. Army Corps of Engineers officials in Riverdale announced that Lake Sakakawea was officially frozen over Jan 18. The announcement came about noon. The date edges out the previous record by a mere two days.
A persistent and wicked cold spell this past week hastened the lake’s icing over process. Temperatures reached 18 below zero mid-week, and that was enough to quickly cool the lake. Once the cold air hit, it was downhill in a hurry.
