The Central McLean Cougars, looking to finish the regular season with an undefeated record, traveled to Wilton to play the Wilton –Wing Miners last Thursday night in the final regular season match up in Region 6 nine-man football action. The Cougar offense dominated the first two quarters of play garnering all 40 points in the first half.

The Cougars kicked off first and Wilton threatened with a few good pass plays. However, the Cougar defense was able to keep the Miners away from their end zone after senior Sam Hultberg intercepted a Wilton -Wing pass on the Miner 40-yard line.

The Cougars did not score on their first offensive possession of the game but junior Brandon Bott nabbed an interception on the Miner 18-yard line. That take away set up Hultberg’s 10-yard full back blast touchdown run. The Cougars took the lead 6-0 with 6:21 left in the first quarter.

Senior Reed Hefta recovered a fumble on the next Miner’s offensive series at the 43-yard of Wilton-Wing. On the next set of downs, junior Grant Singer, on third and four, dashed 37 yards into the end zone for six more points. Hultberg bullied in the end zone for the two-point conversion. The Cougar’s led 14-0.

The Miners suffered from another Bott interception just minutes later and after two large Wilton-Wing defensive penalties Hultberg rushed to keep the ball in Central McLean’s hands. The chain gang measured once during that series then Singer ran 12 yards for another Cougar touch down to make it 20-0.

Sophomore Jacob Ruff swiped the next Cougar interception that set up another Hultberg touchdown just seconds later. Ruff ran in the two-point conversion making the score 28-0, with 11 minutes remaining in the half.

Senior quarterback Derek Isaak found junior receiver Ben Duben in the second quarter in a nifty pass play for 22 yards. With 9:17 left in the half, Ruff took advantage of the good field position and zipped six yards for a Cougar touchdown. Although the two-point conversion was not completed, the Cougars jumped up 34 -0.

Singer had the next take away in the form of an interception at the Cougar 20-yard line. Isaak found Duben again for another 17-yard pass play then Hultberg punched it in from the four yard line with 3:58 left in the half. The Cougars led 40-0.
