Girls get first win

The Trojans girls team defeated Washburn 48-45 in overtime for their first win of the season at the McLean County shoot out held at Turtle Lake-Mercer School Saturday afternoon. The shoot out was shortened from a 12 game two day event to a one day four game event due to the weather. Other games that day saw Sawyer defeat Max 55-47, Underwood beat White Shield 72-30 and Garrison defeated Glen Ullin/Hebron 34-23.
Haley Zinke was the leading scorer for the Trojans with 19 points, the Cardinal had two players in double figures Mandy Schell and Heidi Scheetz both with 11. Schell started the scoring with a triple and Scheetz followed with a deuce to give the Cardinal a 5-0 lead.
A the 4:46 mark Haley Zinke started an 8-0 run with a triple. Trista Crimmins followed with 3 of 4 free throws and bucket to put the Trojans in front 8-5.
Scheetz and Kennedy Sondrol traded buckets the last minute of the quarter to keep the Trojans in front 10-7 at the end of one.
The Trojans suffered a scoring drought the second quarter only getting one field goal from Tasha Williams at the 1:10 mark. The Cardinals started the quarter with a 10-0 run and led at the half time break 17-12.
The teams traded buckets to start the third quarter then a bucket from Zinke and one from Crimmins from a steal cut the Cardinals lead to 19-18 at the 6:35 mark.
