Singer awarded nine-man senior athlete of the year

Last weekend, at the Dakota Bowl at the Fargo Dome, state champions were crowned in all four high school football divisions. Although Central McLean senior Grant Singer would have liked to be on the field playing his last football game of his high school career, he was able to stand proudly on the turf after the nine-man game to receive the very prestigious honor of being chosen the nine-man senior athlete of the year.
There are six regions in nine-man football and one senior was chosen from each region. “After I heard my name being called, I thought about all my coaches and teammates throughout the years and all they have taught me.” Said the humble Singer, “Everyone has made me who I am today.” Singer added, “I was honored to be nominated along with five other great athletes.”
Co- coach of the Central McLean Cougars, Kevin Dockter praised the senior, “I believe Grant is very deserving of this award. Grant is one of the best senior football players in the state at any level this season. Not only is he a tremendous athlete, he has been a great leader and teammate for our younger players.”
When asked about finishing his high school football career, Singer stated, “It has been bittersweet now that I have finished this level of football. I will miss playing nine-man football with all the guys and my coaches.” Singer doesn’t know if he will be playing football in college but college coaches are likely to be knocking on Singer’s door.
