TL-M Trojan girls are McLean County Champions

The Turtle Lake-Mercer girls won the McLean County Tournament this past weekend in Wilton. The Trojans defeated Minot Our Redeemers Knights, 59-54, in the championship game.
In quarter-final action Turtle Lake-Mercer defeated Garrison 66-60; Max defeated Wilton 45-32; Minot Our Redeemers turned back Underwood in over time 64-59; and Washburn stopped White Shield, 52-28.
Friday night semi-final action saw Turtle Lake-Mercer slip past Max, 55-54, and Minot Redeemers defeat Washburn, 56-48. Consolation games: Underwood defeated White Shield, 72-10, and Garrison defeated Wilton, 46-38.
Consolation games Saturday: Underwood defeated Garrison for fifth place, 63-39, and Wilton defeated White Shield for seventh place.
Washburn took third place, defeating Max 69-44.
Trojans 59-Knights 54
Jordyn Sondrol led the Trojans in scoring with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Jenna Bayless added 18 points.
Courtney Jacobsen had a team-high and game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Minot Our Redeemers Knights.
The Trojans took a 4-0 lead to start the championship game. The Knights then threw a little press on and forced some Trojans turnovers and took a 6-4 lead. A two-pointer from Sondrol tied the score at six at the five-minute mark. A two from Kelsey Everett put the Trojan up, 8-6.
Jacobsen then scored a couple of buckets and a free throw to put the Knights up, 11-8. A three-pointer from Sondrol tied the game at 11.
A three-pointer from Whitney Fugere and a two from Kasey Rademacher put the Knights up, 16-11.
A triple from Jacobsen added to the Knights’ lead as time ran out to end the first quarter with the Knights on top, 19-13.
The Trojans went on a 13-0 run to start the second quarter with Jenna Bayless scoring four points; Everett a triple; and Sondrol eight points. The Knights finished the second quarter with a 7-2 run to trail at the half, 30-28.
Bayless and Sondrol each scored to begin the third quarter and took a 34-28 lead. Sondrol went to the bench with her fourth foul at the 5:47 mark of the third quarter.
With Sondrol on the bench, the Trojans were able to maintain their lead and led going into the fourth quarter, 45-37.
It was the Courtney Jacobsen-show for a few minutes in the fourth quarter as she scored six straight points and cut the Trojans’ lead to 49-48 at the 2:33 mark.
Buckets from Emily Van Lith and Fugere put the Knights up, 52-51, with 1:53 remaining in the game.
A short shot from Bayless put the Trojans in front, 53-52. From there, the Trojans scored from the free-throw line with Sondrol going four for four and Sabrina Rust two for two. The free tosses from Rust came with six seconds left to put the game out of reach for the Knights.
