Trojan girls win two

The Trojan girls picked up a pair of wins this past week. On Tuesday night, Dec 16, the Trojans defeated the Surrey Mustangs, 50-46, and, on Dec. 20, Saturday afternoon, they defeated the Sheridan County Coyotes 55-45 in a district contest.

Jenna Bayless scored nine of her 21 points in the first quarter. Caitlin Jensen scored the other two and the Trojans led at the first stop, 11-4. Kayla Nelson scored all eight points for the Mustangs the first quarter and 33 for the game.

In the middle part of the second quarter, the Trojans went on an 8-0 run to go up 21-12 at the 3:00 mark. Back-to-back buckets from Shelby Gantzer of the Mustangs put the score at 23-18 Trojans at the 1:39 mark.

Jordyn Sondrol put down a trey with 13 seconds left in the half. The Mustangs added a free throw with six seconds to play for a 26-19 lead for the Trojans at the half.

Kayla Nelson scored on t3 three-pointers in the third quarter for the Mustangs. Bayless scored 3 two-pointers with Jensen earning a deuce and a free throw for the Trojans to stay in front, 35-30, at the end of the third quarter.

Gantzer scored on a pair of deuces for the Mustangs to start the fourth quarter to cut the Trojans lead to one point, 35-34.

Jensen put the Trojans up by three with a deuce; Chantel Urban dropped in a two-pointer for the Mustangs and seconds later added a free throw to tie the game at 37 at the 5:07 mark.

At the 4:52 mark, Jensen scored and was fouled. The bucket and free throw put the Trojans up 40-37. Nelson put a triple to tie the score at 40 at the 4:32 mark. Back-to-back two pointers from Devon Belisle put the Trojans up 44-40 with 3:30 remaining in the game.

Nelson dropped in a pair of free throws and a pair of deuces for the Mustangs but the Trojans went 6 for 6 from the free throw line in the last two minutes of the game to win by four.

Kelsey Everett, Taralee Anderson and Jensen made good on the free throws down the stretch.

Trojans 55-Coyotes 45

The Trojans picked up a District win against the Coyotes when Jenna Bayless lead the way with 22 points. Kelsey Everett added 15 and Jordyn Sondrol 10. Nellie Dockter lead the Coyote with 14 points and Jasmine Massingill added 12.

The Trojans took a slight lead and were able to hang on to it until the 3:10 mark of the second quarter when Everett put down a triple to start an 8-0 run. Caitlin Jensen cashed in on a free throw and Rachel Hanson a pair of free throws. Bayless finished the run with the buzzer=beater to put the Trojans in front at the half, 22-12.

Everett scored a triple to start and end the third quarter. Bayless and Sondrol were in on a five-point mini-run in the middle of the quarter. Massingill scored five points for the Coyotes, Teresa Werner and Kim Tkach each added a deuce for the Coyotes
