Trojans in Region semi-final game
The Turtle Lake-Mercer Tro-jans moved into the Region 5 semi final game with a 45-35 win over the Flasher Bulldogs Monday night. The opponents for the Trojans will be the Underwood Comets.
Kelsey Everett led the Trojans in scoring with 16 points; Jordyn Sondrol added 15. Jenna Bayless scored 12 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and blocked six shots. Bayless played most of the fourth quarter with four fouls but didn’t foul out.
Whitney Eckroth led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Allison Schick pulled down 10 rebounds.
Jordyn Sondrol got the Trojans on the board first at the 6:38 mark with a bucket. The Bulldogs scored the next five points on a Katelin Volk deuce and free-throws from Allison Schick and Whitney Eckroth. Kelsey Everett tied the game at five with a triple at the 1:42 mark.
Sondrol then scored a triple, then a deuce on a feed from Devon Belisle to put the Trojans in front, 10-5. Schick scored on a put-back with 0:03 on the clock to make it 10-7 at the end of one.
Jenna Bayless and Lindsey Ruscheinsky traded buckets to start the second quarter and the Bulldogs cut the Trojans’ lead to 12-11 at the 4:11 mark.
Sondrol scored a trey and, seconds later, a long two-pointer to put the Trojans up 17-11 Ruscheinsky scored from the paint for the Bulldogs at the 1:16 mark.
Sondrol got a steal, made the bucket and got fouled at the 0:50 mark. After they made the free-throw, the Trojans were in front 20-13. Schick put in a pair of free throws to end the first half with the Trojans in front, 20-15
Bayless got the first score of the third quarter with a turn around shot off the glass. Everett put down a triple and the Trojans led, 25-15, at the 5:01 mark.
Eckroth put in a pair of treys to keep the Bulldogs close. The Trojans answered with a pair of free throws from Bayless and a triple from Everett to end the third quarter, 30-24, Trojans.
