Central McLean quarterback Hunter Jacobs and wide receiver Kyle Bott teamed up for the Cougars’ biggest play of the game this past Saturday, but they flipped roles as Bott passed to Jacobs on what would be a 50-yard score in the third quarter of the Cougars’ final game of the season. The Bott-to-Jacobs score would be one of two touchdowns the Cougars would score as home-standing South Heart outlasted the Cougars 44-12.

That turned out to be a pretty exciting play for the boys, commented Central McLean co-coach Kurt Ziebarth, but it was just one of the successful pass plays the Cougars came up with, as they passed for a total of 163 yards in the game, relying on the pass for most of their yards.

Another of those successful passes was the pass from Jacobs to Danny Ferguson that set up the Cougars’ first touchdown of the game. Ferguson hauled the ball in from the six-yard line in the second quarter, cutting Heart River’s lead to 23-6.

Jacobs finished the game with eight completions for 113 yards, the lion’s share of the passes going to Tanner Freeman, who hauled in three passes for a total of 43 yards. Bott was also good for three catches for a total of 30 yards, while Jacobs’ lone catch was his 50-yard score.
