The Central McLean Cougar girls placed fourth at the Washburn Invitational track meet this past Friday, led by a quartet of girls who placed in opens, relays and jumping events. Underwood scored 83 points, behind Harvey-Wells County’s 133, Southern McLean’s 106 and Velva’s 94.
Sophomore Mariah Sellon led the way individually with a first-place finish in the long jump, leaping 16-0. Sellon was also a member of the 400 and 800-meter relay teams, joined by Chailee Berg, Emily Eichhorst and Maddie Holm, both of whom placed second. Eichhorst also had an individual second place finish in the 400-meter open.
Senior thrower Abby Landenberger also nabbed a second-place finish with her toss of 92.5 in the discus as she placed in three events.
In boys’ action, sophomore Nick Dammen led the way for the Cougars, placing in all four of his events, led by a second place in the discus with a toss of 116-1. Dammen also placed sixth in shot put, eight in javelin and was a member of the third-place mile relay team along with Pablo Escoffie, Nevada Sorenson and Marshall LeRoy.
The Cougar boys placed sixth with 19 points.
Earlier in the week, the Cougars competed at the Bison-Miner Classic in Hazen, where Dammen was the lone points-earner for the boys, fifth place in the discus, while the girls placed seventh in the team standings with 53 points.
