City commission still working on budget
At Monday night’s Velva City Commission meeting, interim president Scott Blotter pushed for another budget meeting the next night, Sept. 10, since the preliminary budget was due that day. (The previous week’s budget meeting failed to meet the mandated quorum with the absence of Commissioners Darren Johnson and JD Larson. See insert.) Commissioner James Anderson moved for a special budget meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10, to finish the preliminary budget.
After seconding the motion for the “sake of discussion,” Larson requested the budget meetings be delayed until after the special election.
“I think we should reschedule the meeting to the 19th due to extraneous circumstances,” he said. “We have one, he, (indicating Commissioner Johnson) doesn’t want to attend the meetings. In a week, we have a new president, maybe. But we’ll have a new board member.”
