Commission to fight junk vehicle problem
Those words came from Scott Blotter, interim president of the Velva City Commission, at last Monday’s meeting.
He pointed out the issue has been neglected for years, and now, with a city attorney back on board, the commission should be able to craft a policy that allows for due process and the ability to tow the offending vehicles away.
City Attorney Jim Wilson said you have to do everything you can to provide due process to the vehicle owners before towing.
“That’s why we want you involved,” Blotter said. “We aren’t experts in the law.”
As discussion continued, City Auditor Carol Bickler noted the process has always been in place, but it gets stymied when it comes to enforcement. Blotter agreed, saying “It’s the follow-through where it gets dropped.”
