New president sworn in
The first order of business at Monday’s Velva city commission meeting was to swear in the new president, Cindy Shattuck.
Shattuck, who served as president from 2002-10, was returned to the chair, elected in the city’s September 17 special election.
With the new president taking the helm, the meeting commenced.
Park Board representative Brent Fischer announced to the commission that the Velva park bridge is one of only two selected by the N.D. Department of Transportation to receive a restoration grant.
According to the preliminary information, the grant will total over $900,000, all earmarked for the renovation of the bridge. Fischer said the city’s only responsibility is to repair the pavement leading up to both ends of the bridge, which is something the city already maintains.
