New superintendent for Velva school
The Velva School Board met last Wednesday in regular session with board president Greg Wiest and board members Suzy Lee, Bryan Dean, Karl Keller and Eric Mack present. Superintendent Steve Swiontek, Principals Ryan Harty and Nancy Dockter, and Business Manager Teri Kvamme were all on hand, as were a number of guests.
A number of items were addressed, including financial assistance for FBLA and FCCLA students attending national conventions, whose fund raising efforts have been adversely effected by the bad weather. The board agreed to help finance the trips, as long as any student who “backs out” returns the funds.
Swiontek reported the school was still short about $22,000 in library, but said “I believe that is covered by a grant written by Mrs. Swedlund.”
Discussion about bills continued, and the superintendent noted there seemed to be too many vendors for many of the supplies. He said if the school could buy more “as a group,” things should be cheaper.
