Yes, Velva, there is a parade
Although Velva’s Main Street is in shambles, due to the construction work, the city’s annual Fourth of July parade will go on always.
Just down a different path.
Parade coordinator Jeff Michalenko of the Velva Association of Commerce said although there was talk of cancelling the parade, “we don’t want to lose that date.”
“If we cancel, we could lose people who come here every year,” he said. “If they have to find somewhere else to go, maybe they would keep going there.”
With this reasoning, the VAC decided to change the parade route in a way that could adequately accommodate spectators and entries. The result is a simple move one block west of Main Street.
