The Velva girls came in with a win and a loss in volleyball play last week, handling Surrey on Oct. 13th, but falling to Bottineau in district play.

Aggies go to 7-0 on season

With freezing temperatures and blowing snow, it felt like football season last Friday night when the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers came to Velva for a regional pairing. In the end, it was the home team that carried the day as the Aggies beat DLB 26-0 to remain undefeated.

The Velva gridiron crew put another mark in the win column this week, moving to 6-0 by taking down Lewis & Clark/Our Redeemers 32-7 in Berthold.

Velva’s fledgling cross country team is making its mark as the high school girls returned from the Rugby meet with a fourth place finish among 22 teams.

Velva beats Drake-Anamoose

The Aggie netters hosted the Lady Raiders in regular season volleyball play last week and beat Drake-Anamoose 3-1, going 25-14, 25-8, 21-25 and 25-15.

Girls pick up two more wins

A couple of quick district wins put the Aggie netters over the 500 mark for the season. Last week, the Velva girls traveled to Dunseith to hand the Lady Dragons a 3-0 drubbing, going 25-7, 25-5 and 25-10. Later in the week, the girls hosted the TGU Titans in Velva and came out on top again, going 25-19, 25-16 and 25-10.

Aggies shoot down Eagles

Velva recorded its fifth straight win of the ‘09 season in New Town last Friday night, rolling over the Eagles 66-24. The Aggies put up 47 unanswered points in the first quarter alone, and were ahead 53-0 before finally allowing New Town on the scoreboard in the second quarter.

Xcountry girls take first

The Velva cross country girls claimed their first team title of the year at the Dunseith meet. The girls took first, followed by Rugby, Red River and Dunseith in the top spots. “The girls were able to run together, which was nice,” said Velva Coach Dave Peterson.

With hundreds of girls in the running, Tasha Heisler had another exceptional showing at the Blue and White Cross Country Invite in Valley City on Sept. 9.
