Xcountry girls take first

The Velva cross country girls claimed their first team title of the year at the Dunseith meet. The girls took first, followed by Rugby, Red River and Dunseith in the top spots. “The girls were able to run together, which was nice,” said Velva Coach Dave Peterson.

Netters take two

Heading into a string of district games, the Velva Aggies set the tone by beating the Ryan Lions 25-17, 25-15- 21-25 and 25-14 on Sept. 15 in Velva. The girls then picked up another win in Sawyer, going 25-13, 25-17 and 25-19 on Sept. 17th.

Aggies add another shut-out

After sitting out much of last season with a shoulder injury, Aggie Collin Kittelson seems to be making up for lost time. Last Friday night, the Velva junior scored 4 touchdowns in the first half as the Aggies rolled over their old rivals, the Stanley Blue Jays, 31-0.

Netters take third

Admitting “consistency is still an issue,” Velva volleyball coach Diana Thingstad still had positive things to say about her girls following last week’s loss to Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood. “We came out strong, but communication broke down and momentum switched,” she said. “We got back on track and took the fourth game, but couldn’t hold on in the fifth, and deciding, game.”

XCountry off and running!

This year, Velva officially has a cross country track team, and Coach Dave Peterson is excited about the prospects. There are 13 junior and senior high students out for the trekking team, and Peterson points to Kara Kuntz as the core.
