Aggie netters take second
The Velva girls opened District 11 play taking on the Drake Anamoose Lady Raiders on Halloween night. After splitting the first two matches, the Aggies took the game 25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 26-24.
“Our passing was excellent against them, which really fueled our offense,” said Velva Coach Molly Terveen. “Madison Letvin had a big night at the net for us.”
The next night, the Aggies faced off with TGU-Towner, and pulled out a win after a 2-2 tie, 19-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-11, 15-9.
“TGU was a wall at the net, and we had to adjust our defense to hit around the block,” Terveen said. “We were successful once the girls got the hang of it.”
Moving into the championship game, the Aggies couldn’t quite handle the Bottineau Stars, and lost the game 11-25, 16-25, 10-25.
In the other final district tournament games, TGU defeated Sawyer 25-5, 25-15, 25-23, and Rugby took down Drake-Anamoose 25-20, 25-12 and 25-11. The winners of these two games advance to regionals, along with Velva and Bottineau.
Regionals start on Monday, Nov. 11, at the Minot Auditorium, and the Aggies will be in the mix. They will play 25 minutes after the conclusion of the 3 p.m. game.
