Aggies ground Hornets, head for playoffs
The Velva gridiron crew continues to come together, and proved it with a resounding win over rivals, the Harvey Hornets, 37-8.
“Last Fridays victory over Harvey was an outstanding performance,” said Velva Coach Larry Sandy. “I thought it was the best we have played so far this year and things really seem to be coming together.
Illustrating that was quarterback Drew Effertz’s fine performance, as he completed 8 of 10 passes for 136 yards and 3 touchdowns. Two of those tosses went to Brad Dean for 2 scores, while Brady Engebretson snagged the third TD pass.
Michael Thingstad added some power on the ground, racking up 101 rushing yards in 12 carries. The lone rushing touchdown came from Shad Vedaa, who went 34 yards in 8 carries. Dean had 8 carries for 51 yards; Robert Finneseth took it 3 times for 12 yards; Isaac Effertz had 1 carry for 8 yards, Peterson took one run for 6 and Engebretson did some rushing work, as well, pushing out 6 yards in 4 carries.
