Aggies have a tough go at state
In their fifth consecutive state high school baseball tournament appearance, the Aggies couldn’t muster a win and finished the tournament in the same spot as last season – eighth.
“We had six seniors at the tournament, and I feel bad for them,” said Coach Mike Thingstad. “We’re a better team than that.”
Velva-Drake opened tournament play in the last game on Thursday, May 28, and fell to the Hatton-Northwood Thunder, 7-4.
“We started off the first couple of innings tough, and got hit hard,” Thingstad said. “We got back into the game, though.”
The Aggies racked up 12 hits, but the error bug bit hard with five miscues.
“We just kept making mistakes,” Thingstad said. “Everytime we got a rally going, then we’d have base running blunders. But even with all that, we were still in the game.”
