Peterson named Coach of the Year
The Velva Drake Aggies track teams were in Bismarck competing at the state meet last week, and returned home with some impressive finishes.
The Aggies took 26 qualifiers to the meet, the second most for any Class B school, according to Coach Dave Peterson.
“The state meet ended a great year for our boys and girls,” said Peterson, who was also named Class B Girls Coach of the Year at the event.
The Aggie girls tallied 42 points to bring home a fifth place plaque, and the boys finished 12th with 23 points.
The girls relay team of Anna Knutson, Haley Heiser, Brittney Thingstad and Brittany Berndt ran down a second place finish in the 800 meter relay with a time of 1:46.77. The same crew of girls posted a time of 51.08 for a fifth place showing in the 400 meter relay.
Tasha Heisler, Breanne Sherlock, Cassidy Peterson and Kara Kuntz clocked in at 10:09.35 to take fourth in the 3200 relay, and Whitney Boehm, Heisler, Sherlock and Thingstad ran down fifth place in the 1600 with a time of 4:13.24.
In individual events, Kuntz finished fourth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:20.05, and took sixth in the 3200 run at 11:57.19. Thingstad finished seventh in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.59.
