Running hard and fast
Velva’s fledgling cross country team is making its mark as the high school girls returned from the Rugby meet with a fourth place finish among 22 teams.
Leading the way were Tasha Heisler in third at 15:52 and teammate Kara Kuntz in 12th at 16:32. Cassidy Peterson finished 31st with a time of 17:13 and Breanne Sherlock was 35th with 17:16. Katie Odland wrapped up Velva’s entry, taking 71st in a field of 115 and clocking in at 18:25.
Scott Bail was Velva’s lone runner for the high school boys, finishing 36th out of 91 with a time of 19:20.
Competing in the junior high division for the girls were Ellie Lou Johnston, fifth; McKaya Koski, 17th; Morgan Effertz, 34th; and Rachael Bail, 36th.
For the junior high boys, it was Hunter Schriener, 15th; Daniel Kuntz, 20th; and Chris Peterson, 23rd.
