Running it down
The boys and girls East Region Cross Country meet was held in Cooperstown last Saturday, Oct. 17, and Velva Coach Dave Peterson was very happy with his runners.
“There were a lot of highlights during the day,” he said. “Hopefully, this will give the athletes some confidence heading into state next Saturday in Valley City.”
Nine girls competed in the girls division, and gave the Aggies an impressive second place finish in a field of 17. Four of those girls finished in the top 20 as All-Region runners: Kara Kuntz, who finished third out of 108 runners; Tasha Heisler, fifth; Breanne Sherlock, 11th; and Cassidy Peterson, 18th.
Katie Odland also ran for the girls and placed 40th; Whitney Boehm took 49th; Ellie Lou Johnston was 56th; Morgan Effertz finished 77th and Rachel Bail was 81st.
“Probably the nicest surprise of the day came when Scott Bail ran his best time of the year and made All Region,” Peterson said. “It was a great job by Scott.”
Bail finished 20th in a field of 118 in the boys division.
The Aggies are coached by Peterson and Larry Long.
