Beulah Boy Scout Pack 19 Pinewood Derby
The Beulah Civic Center was filled with smiles and shouts of encouragement as Beulah Boy Scout Pack No. 19 held their annual Pinewood Derby Feb. 25 in Beulah.
For the derby, each scout was issued a block of wood, two axles and four wheels -- and given free rein to let their imaginations run wild. Color and carving were allowed, the only rule being that the car weighed five ounces or less.
The derby this year consisted of 12 cars racing in two rounds made up of 12 heats each, and awards were given out for craftsmanship and overall time in three different subgroups.
In the category of craftsmanship Levi Weigum placed first in the Tiger/Wolf subgroup; Spencer Mellmer placed first in the Bear subgroup; and Tanner Palaniuk placed first in the Webelos subgroup.
In overall race times, Aaron Ripplinger placed first in the Tiger/Wolf subgroup, Mellmer placed first in the Bear subgroup and Trenton Solem placed first in the Webelos subgroup.
Ripplinger took home overall race winner, while Mellmer was top vote-getter in the craftsmanship division.
