2015 Turkey Trot

BY JARANN JOHNSON
The Beulah Park District hosted a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. While many holiday goers were preparing  Thanksgiving meals and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade others were out running.

All together there were about 40 trotters that participated in the Turkey Trot this year. Race Director Stacy Winkler said the race was a success but the overall number of participants was slightly down from the 2014 race.

Winkler credited the small participation decrease to cold and windy weather on race day.

“Participation was a little less. I think the cold scared some people away,” Winkler said.

The 5 Kilometer course started at the Beulah Fit Club and proceeded to Front Street. From the intersection of Front Street  and 1st Ave SW (one block behind Bronson’s and past the railroad tracks) trotters made a right turn and headed toward Highway 49.

After reaching Highway 49 trotters ran to Riverside Park, then turned around and returned to the finish, which was the  original starting point near the Beulah Fit Club.

No times were kept for the race because it is a non-competitive event. Trotters were given entry T-shirts and every trotter that braved the cold was awarded with a door prize for their efforts.
