Anglers, Sheriff’s Department rescue two at Beaver Bay
By Chris Erickson
Beaver Bay proved to be a dangerous location late Friday night when two local men went through the ice and were helped by anglers and emergency responders.
Jason Kilde and Duane Otto, both of Beulah, found themselves in cold water in two separate instances when their vehicles, a 4-Wheeler and pick-up, respectively, went through a depression in the ice.
Jason Kilde said he wanted to especially thank the men who were able to pull him out of the icy water. Those men are Jeff Boyce, Mandan (formerly Beulah), and Russ Fischer, Mandan.
“They reached in and pulled me out. They are the reason that I’m here today,” Kilde said. “They stayed with Duane to make sure nothing else happened with him. They waited there with him until the Sheriff’s Team arrived on scene. They made sure to keep talking to Duane.”
According to a report from the Sheriff’s Department, by the time Mercer County units arrived on scene Kilde was sitting in his truck. Kilde was checked by ambulance services and declined going to the hospital.
The report then stated that Otto was retrieved by the dive team at about 8:21 p.m. Otto was checked by ambulance services and declined going to the hospital.
