Area emergency services reach new heights
By Diane Newberry
It has been a hot day, and the evening hasn’t cooled the asphalt behind the Beulah Civic Center much. The crowd squints up at the bright blue sky, looking westward for their visitors. Someone armed with a radio says the helicopter should be in sight at any moment, and suddenly, a helicopter is landing in the middle of the Beulah fairgrounds.
It was an exciting moment for the many law enforcement and safety agencies that had gathered on Wednesday to learn about medical services that can be provided by helicopter. Among the visiting groups were the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, the Beulah and Hazen police and fire agencies and the Mercer County ambulance. The first part of their “hands-on training” had been completed in successfully guiding the medical helicopter to a safe landing spot.
