Basin receives $100 million for carbon capture

Basin Electric Power Cooperative received a $100 million grant from the Department of Energy for a carbon capture demonstration project at the Antelope Valley Station. If successful, the project could allow coal fired power plants to remain viable if carbon emission limits are put into effect.

Basin announced its intention to develop the project in December. The cooperative received a $300 million loan for the project from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in January. The DOE grant comes from the agency’s Clean Coal Power Initiative Basin spokesman Daryl Hill said.
