Calving conditions much improved

Mercer County ranchers are seeing much improved calving conditions over last year’s cold wet mess.

Last year, ranchers were coming off of a major drought years that forced them to feed most or all their reserve hay. That was followed by a winter of heavy snow storms and then a spring of flooding that covered pastures and tore out fences. March 2009 threw another blizzard at them in between two flood crests.
