County Commission requests road study

Is it time for North Dakota to look at adding more state highways? That’s what the Mercer County Commission wants to know.

The commission is coping with the state Department of Transportation’s decision to not swap a portion of Mercer County Road 21 for a section of state highway. The state cannot add the heavily traveled road because the state has a firm limit on the number of miles of state highways it will administer. Currently the state could add about 45 miles of state highways to the system, but it is hampered by requests from counties to absorb many more miles than that.
