Down year yields bigger bucks much

The word from the field is that the deer were few and far between during the hunting season. But if the antlers on display at the Beulah Chamber of Commerce Big Buck contest at the GrandView were any indication, the deer that hunters did find were good ones.

The winning racks for mule deer and whitetail deer both scored higher than 204 points on the Boone and Crockett grading scale. If those scores hold up in official scoring, then those racks would be counted as impressive trophies just about anywhere in the United States. The winning whitetail was bagged by Landyn Johnson, Kulm, and was taken using a muzzleloader. John Rohde, Halliday, took the top mule deer.
