Equipment use policy brought into question
The first reading of a new policy caused a bit of a stir at the Mercer County Commission last week. The policy would seek to limit personal use of county equipment.
Commissioners and employee policy committee members have struggled with language concerning the policy for months, with the new policy being so strict that no personal use of county equipment would ever be permitted, for any reason. At last week’s meeting, county employees took issue with the policy, noting that it effectively meant an employee couldn’t use a county-owned pen to sign a check for their lunch, or to plug in their personal vehicle to the courthouse’s exterior outlets in the winter.
