From waste to cinder block

One day, fly ash from power plants that now has to be dumped in landfills may instead be used to build roads and buildings.

That’s the hope of Ralph Friebel and David Blair. Friebel is a Jamestown businessman and Blair works for the engineering firm Kadrmas, Lee and Jackson. Friebel and KLJ have joined to form a new company, Renew Products, LLC that would take the ash and process it to form lightweight aggregate. Aggregate is an industry term for materials, such as sand or gravel, that is added to asphalt or concrete to strengthen it.
