Koapke signs plea agreement

Kari Koapke, 24, Beulah, and prosecutors have reached a plea agreement reducing a Class C felony charge to a Class A misdemeanor stemming from a one-vehicle accident that killed a Beulah native.

Koapke pleaded guilty to aggravated reckless driving on April 11, Mercer County States Attorney Jim Johnson said, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison, $2,000 fine, or both.

Koapke was charged Aug. 1 with negligent homicide – a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison, $5,000 fine, or both – stemming from a one-vehicle accident four miles east of Zap on May 19, 2008, that killed the vehicle’s passenger, Beulah native Jason Korbyn, 30.
