Mercer County outlook for 2019
By Daniel Arens
As 2019 begins, the Mercer County Commission hopes to take stock of its financial situation, looking for some signs of good news for the future.
Darby Berger, Mercer County treasurer, came before the commission to discuss the pledge of county assets at local banks. She also provided a broader overview of where the county is sitting financially.
“Interest rates are going up a little, which is good,” she said.
Berger presented some positive signs for the county, although these don’t offset the fiscal challenges the county faces from its dwindling reserves. She said more money and less bills were received this December at the end of the year than last year at the same time.
