Plane scare has happy ending

A quick sightseeing ride turned serious for pilot Ted Chick when the hydraulics operating his landing gear failed soon after he took off from the Beulah Airport Saturday afternoon.

"I wasn’t really going anywhere," Chick said.

As he lifted his 1972 Cessna 210 into the air, Chick started to raise his landing gear as he has done hundreds of times before. He heard the hydraulic pump continue to whine long after it should have quit. He pulled the breaker to shut off the pump and checked the landing gear in a mirror mounted on the wing. While two of the wheels locked into place the third wheel was just dangling there.
