Read’em and weep

It was a classic matchup. The out-of-towner held the upper hand and went all in with a pair of pocket 10s. The local called and flipped over his king-jack. The dealer flipped over the hole cards and the fourth card was a jack.

With that, Sam Fandrich, Beulah, outlasted 99 other players at the 2010 Black Gold Deep Stack Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament held Saturday and Sunday at the GrandView. By taking the final hand against Jim Nelson, Bismarck, Fandrich went home with the $5,100 top prize. Local poker players were well represented at the final table, taking four of the top 10 places. Other local winners were Myron Haats, Golden Valley, fifth place, Tom Dallman, Zap, eighth place, and Deb Gullickson, Hazen, who rounded out the top 10.
