Salary vote makes for budget aches, woes

A vote rejecting the city’s plan for employee salary increases created problems as the Beulah City Council reviewed its preliminary budget on Monday.

At its Sept. 8 meeting, the City Council rejected a plan put forward by the employee relations subcommittee and city department supervisors that would have granted merit based raises to most city employees along with a smaller across the board increase. Because there had been no objections raised to the plan after the plan was introduced in the six weeks prior to the September meeting, the raises were incorporated into the preliminary budget.
