The cost of serving our youth
By Daniel Arens
Everyone agrees that children and youth are one asset worth the investment of both time and money.
But even if the cost is worth it, there is always still the cost itself to be considered. And with financial difficulties becoming more and more of an issue in Mercer County, the question of how to afford those costs has risen to the forefront for the Mercer County Commission.
The Mercer County Youth Bureau is a county service that offers intervention and support services for youth in the county dealing with personal, family, school or legal issues. The bureau works closely with the Hazen and Beulah School Districts as well as county and city government to try to reach out to struggling kids before a problem might develop into a tragedy.
