Trip cancellation raises ruckus

Nearly 50 people crowded into the meeting room at Beulah High School after an eighth grade field trip to Medora was canceled.

The Beulah Middle School has been participating in an overnight field trip for the eighth grade class for the last 15 years, according to Superintendent Rob Lech. The trip has come to be seen by many students and parents as a "capstone" event or crowning achievement for middle school students. Lech said the trip had been organized by teachers on a volunteer basis and was neither part of the required curriculum for the eighth grade or a duty listed in the teachers’ contracts.
