Warm and dry weeks allow farmers to catch up

Wet weather dominated September in Mercer County, but October brought a return to summerlike temperatures. Farmers took advantage to catch up on harvest and other fall activities.

For most of the month of September, about 20 percent of Mercer County’s small grain crops were caught in the fields. When the weather turned around, farmers were quick to get back in the fields and now nearly all of the harvesting is complete, said Mercer County Extension Agent Craig Askim.
