West River Judging turns 50
By Chris Erickson
On the last weekend of February, members of local 4-H and FFA chapters from throughout the state will converge on Beulah for one of the most anticipated contests of the year - the West River Judging competition.
This year will mark the Golden Jubilee or 50th Anniversary - of the competition, which was first held in early March, 1966 at the sales ring of the Beulah Livestock yard. Through five decades the contest has moved locations, evolved through rules and technology changes and seen early participants become contest volunteers and organizers.
Extension Agent Dena Kemmet said she was proud to have been a part of the contest that is so highly respected throughout the state.
