Winfrey, Tipton honored as Extra Milers
By Chris Erickson
Two Beulah residents were honored last week during the annual city employee appreciation dinner and social.
Jan Winfrey and Michelle Tipton both received awards for their dedication to the area and their longstanding efforts for going the extra mile.
Mayor Darrell Bjerke had overseen letters being sent out to the community asking for nominations for the “Extra Mile” awards for people who area residents thought regularly went above and beyond in their efforts.
Winfrey was honored first, with City Auditor Heather Ferebee detailing Winfrey’s long list of service.
“Janis is an active participant in senior activities and work groups at the Senior Citizen Center,” Ferebee read from the nomination. “She is currently serving as treasurer at the ongoing rummage sale. She is also treasurer of the IAAP – International Association of Administrative Professionals, but has held every office. She recycles empty ink cartridges which are gathered from locations throughout Mercer County and sends them to Think Recycle with the purpose of keeping them out of our landfills.
