Coal Bowl 2012 is within tasting distance and everyone wants to know what kind of game to expect. The past two Coal Bowls were polar opposites. Coal Bowl 2011 was a good ol’ fashion butt whooping, and Coal Bowl 2010 was a good ol’ fashion grind-it rivalry game.
Head boys basketball coach Jeremy Brandt was doing what he normally does a week after the Lions all-star game; working. Brandt was combining. It shouldn’t be a surprise that the local coach was trying to get the most out of what was in front of him.
The American Legion Section 7 Tournament didn’t open with a bang. The tournament opened with a whimper. There were only about seven people in the stands who weren’t working, but the tournament would end according to plan with Washburn winning it.
While the temperature was rising, the bats were swinging in full force July 19-20 for the I-94 Babe Ruth tournament at Goldmann Field, Beulah. The winner of the two-day event, Beulah, earned a spot in a best-of-three play-in series to advance to the 13-15 Babe Ruth State tourney.
