For a team that lost four starters after a 12-13 season, it’s easy for anyone to overlook the Beulah boys basketball team. According to the hoopster the 2008-2009 Miners finished third in the district and fourth in the regions. Head coach Jeremy Brandt was quoted in noting “Beulah will be a very different team.”
By this late in the season most scouting reports have teams pegged. But the Beulah boys basketball squad still has a few tricks up their sleeves.
At Saturday’s start there were 11. But by 3 that afternoon, Beulah-Hazen was down to six wrestlers still alive. The veterans, and a few youngsters, showed promise as the Miners will send a six-pack of grapplers to the Class B State Wrestling Tournament in Fargo Thursday through Saturday.
It’s back to the basics for the Beulah-Hazen wrestlers this week. After spotty showing over the weekend at the East-West Tournament in New Salem, the Miners are preparing for their final dual in Hettinger Thursday. From there all the wrestling room talk will turn to the Region 4 Tournament in Beulah Feb. 13.
With their schedule only becoming harder, Beulah needs to make up ground when playing at home. Last week, playing host twice, the Miner boys basketball team had their highest scoring adventure followed by their lowest to finish the week 2-1.
