By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah Miners finished seventh at the Class B boys state golf tournament, which was hosted by Prairie West Golf Course in Mandan. Beulah finished with a team score of 724 strokes last week.
The best Beulah performance at the state tournament was Michael Schmidt’s sixth place showing. Schmidt, a junior, finished the 2-Day tournament with a score of 162 strokes. During the first day, he carded an 85, which was good enough for 12th overall. Then on Day 2 Schmidt really turned it one, carding the third best Day 2 score with a 77.
Schmidt’s eighth-stroke improvement was enough to push him to sixth overall. Beulah didn’t have any other golfers finish in the top 10 or 20. Beulah junior Jase Sailer was close to a top 20 finish, taking 26th with a 162.
Sailer started the tournament with a rough day carding a 95, which put him at 52nd overall. Sailer didn’t sulk on a bad day and came back strongly on Day 2.
Sailer carded an 81 on Day 2, which gave him the 12th best Day 2 score. Sailer’s 14-stroke improvement was enough to push him to 26th overall.
