Beulah girls almost get comeback W
By Jarann Johnson
Beulah had trouble figuring out how to Sam Oech Monday night and it ultimately cost them. Same Oech scored 40 points in Beach’s 69-64 win over Beulah.
Beulah started the game with two bad plays – allowing points off an offensive put-back and turnover. Beulah didn’t falter after their bad start and tied the game 8-8. The quarter ended with Beulah only trailing by three points, 19-16 but a different problem was emerging.
Beulah’s problem had a first and last name – Sam Oech. The Beach sophomore was single-handedly pushing Beach toward a win. Oech scored 17 first-quarter points. The only other player who scored in the first period was Abby Wilhelmi. Wilhelmi had two points.
Oech kept pushing the pace and tallied 14 points in the second quarter, which put her team up 45-30 at the break. Oech ended the first half with 31 points, and was shooting 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. If Beulah wanted to make a comeback they were going to need an answer for Oech.
